What is Aeration and Seeding? Aeration is a lawn care process that involves removing small plugs or cores from your lawn using a specialized machine, similar in size to a lawnmower. Following aeration, grass seed is evenly distributed across the treated area.
Why Aerate and Seed? Aeration helps alleviate soil compaction and reduces thatch buildup. The removal of cores allows oxygen to penetrate the soil, improving overall soil conditions. Seeding, which follows aeration, promotes fresh grass growth, particularly in areas that are patchy or damaged.
When is the Best Time for Aeration and Seeding? For cool-season grasses, the late summer and early fall are optimal times for aeration and seeding.
Is Lawn Cutting Necessary Before or After the Service? It’s advisable to mow your lawn before the aeration and seeding service is performed.
How Deep are the Plugs or Cores? We aim for a target depth of 2 to 3 inches, but the actual depth may vary depending on site conditions. To facilitate the process, we recommend watering the lawn before the service to soften the soil.
How Much Seed is Applied After Aeration? We apply 4 pounds of Certified Tall Fescue Blend per 1000 square feet of turf.
What Type of Seed is Used? We use Blue-Tag certified Fescue Blends from Lesco.
